HAFN is looking to hire a contractor position to support HAFN’ social media and communications. This person must be collaborative, flexible and understanding of HAFN's Core Values (accountability, transparency, self- awareness, and integrity). This person will work under a council method and with intentions to decolonize/reclaim culture
Department: General Operations
Reports to/collaborated with: Chief Executive Director, Graphic Designer, Systems and Operations Coordinator, Grant Writer and Fundraising Adviser; and indirectly with the rest of HAFN's team.
Compensation: This is a contractor position, pays $27.50 per hour for 10 hours a week. August 2025- Dec 31, 2025- Renewal will be dependent on performance and funding accessibility.
Job Summary: The Media & Communications Coordinator (MCC) assumes a crucial role in the timely dissemination of newsletters and public stories for HAFN, leveraging expertise in Canva management and general graphic editing skills for pictures and collages. Proficient in Media SOPs, the MCC ensures the use of watermarked pictures, and demonstrates intellectual property credit awareness and enforcement for photo, video, and music content. Additionally, the MCC is adept in Mailchimp platform use and database management, ensuring consistency in communication.
Functioning as the main point of contact for organizations, corporations, or any entities seeking to create publications about HAFN's work, the MCC is dedicated to guaranteeing an accurate representation of HAFN, avoiding tokenization or false statements. This role requires a deep understanding of HAFN's culture and values, translating them effectively into digital marketing strategies for various purposes, including fundraising, campaigns, community outreach, reporting, information dissemination, and promotion.
Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Engagement:
•Create engaging content for social media posts, reels, pictures, and videos.
•Utilize storytelling techniques for engaging newsletter content.
•Foster online support through followers and collaborations.
•Track and report audience demographics for social media platforms.
Communication and Coordination:
•Monitor and prevent social media scams, inappropriate tagging, and misrepresented media communications.
•Maintain communication on internal and external events reported by team members.
•Collect monthly updates from coordinators for newsletters, ongoing social media posts, and program reports.
•Collaborate with the Grant Writer and Fundraiser Advisor for fundraising campaigns and strategies.
•Creates and publishes monthly newsletters, and community bulletins announcements.
Design and Branding:
•Ensure accurate designs in all HAFN materials aligned with the organization's brand.
•Collaborate with the contracted graphic designer on an as-needed basis.
•Create fliers and presentations with support from the contracted graphic designer.
Organization and Administration:
•Edit and ensure the accuracy of all written materials before publication.
•Organize and maintain accessible folders for storing media materials across various platforms.
•Implement community outreach strategies based on equity and inclusion principles.
•Cultivate and improve systems of communication for enhanced efficiency.
•Edit, create, and publicize the monthly newsletter by the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
•Ensure copyright compliance for HAFN's pictures, videos, and marketing materials.
Skills and abilities:
•Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills for effective communication.
•Proficiency in Microsoft tools or quick learning ability in relevant areas.
•Knowledgeable in social media management, production, and accessibility.
•Mastery of digital marketing strategies to achieve HAFN's fundraising and communication goals.
•Strong interpersonal communication skills.
•Understanding of marketing strategies and publicity.
•Proficient in creating reels, videos, and editing pictures as needed.
•Sound judgment in selecting the best images and photo composition for publicizing.
•Cultural awareness and adeptness in writing with decolonizing methods.
•Recognition of storytelling versus intellectual or reporting writing.
•Awareness and commitment to decolonizing and reclamation principles.
•Ability to promptly schedule or produce live or recorded videos, photos, and online materials for significant cultural events (e.g., Solstices, Equinoxes, Indigenous People's Day, Massacre Memorials, Thanks giving, etc.).
•Competence in website management and maintenance.
Experience/Education
•Degree in Digital Marketing or equivalent professional experience.
•Proficient implementation of non-violent communication techniques.
•Expertise in community and communications building, including writing diplomatically and assertively about the truth regarding Indigenous People.
